The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi, announced on Saturday November 2, that a new Israeli air attack targeted Joussieh’s crossing point of way, a crucial path for transit between Lebanon and Syria.

This strike has also impacted humanitarian facilities, further complicating the flight and protection of people in search of security in the face of climbing the conflict. The UNHCR reported that this intensification of the fighting forced thousands of people to seek refuge in Syria.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights has confirmed that two Israeli strikes took place on the Syrian side of Joussieh, the first having already considerably reduced traffic to this crossing point. The clashes between Hezbollah and Israel caused the exodus of more than 500,000 people, mainly Syrians, fleeing Lebanon. The country has six official crossing points to Syria, in addition to many informal routes.

Israel justified its bombings by alleging that Hezbollah sought to transfer weapons through this border. Since September 23, these attacks have caused more than 1,900 deaths in Lebanon, according to government data.
