Ons Jabeur is indignant at the cancellation of Monastir’s Jasmine Open

Ons Jabeur, former world number 2 tennis, expressed his indignation in the face of the unexplained cancellation of the Open Jasmine of Monastir initially scheduled for December 2024 in Monastir. In an open letter addressed to the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and its president, David Haggerty, the Tunisian star, supported by more than 60 professional players, demanded explanations.

“I am shocked to see these cancellations in December! The players are already struggling enough to improve their ranking! She wrote on her X account (formerly Twitter). The letter, co-signed by players of different nationalities, notably from the United States, Canada, Germany and Japan, highlights the assets of Monastir: a favorable climate and quality infrastructure.

In 2023, Monastir regularly welcomed male and female tournaments, including four M15, two W25 and two W15 tournaments for the month of December. However, the 2024 calendar no longer provides for any competition in December, a situation which worries particularly jabeur, which trains in Monastir and remains an emblematic figure of Arab tennis.

The association of professional tennis players (PTPA) supported this approach by denouncing a lack of transparency in decision -making. To date, neither the ITF nor the Tunisian Tennis Federation have responded to this controversy.
