The president of the Destourien Libre party, ABIR Moussi, is to appear this Friday before the Tunis Court of Appeal in a new case, even though she was prevented, according to her defense committee, to exercise her right to challenge a previous conviction. A situation denounced by his lawyers, who speak of serious violations of his defense rights.
The president of the Destourien Libre (PDL) party, ABIR Moussi, is due to appear this Friday, June 20 before the Correctional Chamber near the Tunis Court of Appeal as part of a new case brought by an association, reports the TAP agency.
In a declaration made public Thursday, the opponent’s defense committee affirms that it was prevented by the prison administration from exercising its right to appeal against a conviction prior to two years in prison, pronounced on June 12 by the criminal chamber No. 44 of the Tunis court of first instance. This conviction follows a complaint filed by the independent higher body for the elections (ISIE).
ABIR Moussi’s lawyers denounce an unjustified impediment, especially since Friday is the last legal day to appeal in this case. Faced with what they call “arbitrary practices”, the defense committee called the Bâtonnier and the professionals of the profession to intervene in an emergency to guarantee respect for the fundamental rights of their client.
