In China the war of the sexes … driving is in full swing! A Dalian (northeast) shopping center has decided to grant special places-wider-to its customers, which did not fail to relaunch the debate on equality between man and woman. The leaders of Sashijedaduhui, “world metropolitan area” were far from suspecting that ten parking spaces reported in pink and wider by 30 centimeters that the usual spaces reserved for women controversy.
According to them, this initiative stems from a good intention by wanting to facilitate things to women. “If parking spaces are wider for women, it is only for practical reasons, this does not mean that they lead less well than men,” explains a leader according to Le Figaro.
On the internet forums, comments diverge, evoking the choice of benevolent attention or the symptom of a scandalous machismo. However, this controversy is reminiscent of that aroused in 2013 by the Beijing police instructions which had advised Chinese drivers not to drive “with high heels” or “(loosen) the handbrake before riding”.
Anyway, the initiative is surprising in the country of gender equality where, in the words of Mao Zedong, “women wear half of the sky”!
