The Archaeological Park of the Colosseum signed a framework agreement with the National Heritage Institute and the Heritage Enhancement Agency and the Cultural Promotion aimed at establishing a twinning between the Colosseum of Rome and the El Jem amphitheater, the old Tysdrus.
This agreement comes on the sidelines of the visit of the Italian Minister of Cultural Affairs Gennaro Sangiuliano.
In a statement published yesterday, the Ministry of Cultural Affairs announced that the text of the Convention was signed by Tarek Baccouche, Director General of the INP, and Alfonsina Russo, director of the Archaeological Park of the Colosseum.
This agreement notably stipulates the valuation of the Colosseum of El Jem, in Mahdia, and the archaeological park of the Colosseum through the promotion of these two Roman archaeological sites.
The agreement also provides for the organization of excavations, research and catering work for better knowledge and development of the site. Common research activities involving the exchange of staff, the organization of workshops and meetings of specialized researchers and conservatives, the conservation and restoration of El Jem monuments are also included.
It should be remembered that this project has been mentioned since 2019, when the director of the Archaeological Park of the Colisée de Rome, Alfonsina Russo met the President of the Republic, Mohamed Ennaceur, and the former Minister of Cultural Affairs, Mohammed Zine El Abidine.
