Several delegations from the Gafsa governorate began a general strike this Wednesday, May 20. This general strike was manifested by numerous protest marches, notably in Om Laarayess, Redayef, Metlaoui, Mdhila, Sidi Aich, Sened and Ksar. The inhabitants of these localities, which gathered in large numbers, called for more development in their region and claimed jobs as reported by the Tunisian and social forum (FTDES)

The slogans launched by the inhabitants also claim the right to benefit from the richness in phosphate enjoyed by the Gafsa mining basin.
