Neïla Driss, first Tunisian critic selected as “alternate voting” for the Golden Globes Awards
The editorial staff of webdo.tn is pleased to announce that our colleague Neïla Driss, a renowned training lawyer and film critic, was selected as “Alternate Voter” for the prestigious Golden Globes Awards of the year 2024/2025. This appointment is a well -deserved recognition for her hard work and his passion for cinema, and constitutes pride for Tunisia and his commitment to the cinematographic field.
Neïla Driss has distinguished herself in the world of cinematographic criticism, winning prizes for her blog in 2006 and contributing to prestigious publications in Tunisia and Egypt. She also co -chased radio programs dedicated to the cinema, thus sharing her passion and knowledge with a wider audience.
Since 2013, Neïla Driss faithfully covers the Cannes Film Festival and Carthage Cinematographic Days, and has been a regular at the Cairo International Film Festival since 2016. She has also participated in other renowned festivals such as the El Gouna film festival, Cinéalma, the Luxor African Film Festival, Manarat, The International Film Festival The Malmö Arab Film Festival.
In 2017, she was a member of the jury for the 12th edition of the Cinealma festival in Carros, France. In 2021, she was one of the 70 cinema reviews to contribute to the list of the 100 best films of Arab women of all time, and was a member of the Independent Fictional Film Selection Commission for the official Carthamatographic Cinematographic Days competition. In February 2022, she chaired the critic jury of the feature films competition from the 26th edition of the International Festival of Author of Rabat, and in November 2022, she became an active member of the Tunisian Association for the Promotion of Cinematographic Critics (ATPCC). In August 2023, she became a member of the FIPRESCI on a personal basis.
In April 2021, Neïla Driss founded “Pink Popcorn”, a Facebook group aimed at bringing together women around their passion for cinema. This dynamic space encourages exchanges on films and series, while promoting cinema outings. The objective is to create a community of female moviegoers, enriched by regular discussions with cinema professionals via Zoom, in a friendly and inclusive atmosphere.
The appointment of Neïla Driss as “alternate voting” to the Golden Globes Awards is an important step in her career. As a first Tunisian critic selected for this prestigious role, she embodies the country’s expertise and dedication in the cinematographic field. We are proud of her commitment and are convinced that she will be able to represent Tunisia with dignity and the diversity of the world cinematographic landscape during the election process of the Golden Globes Awards. It should be noted that so far, only a Tunisian voter at the Golden Globes has been identified: Ramzi Mallouki, installed in the United States. Neïla Driss’s selection is therefore a first for a Tunisian based in Tunisia.
