A fire broke out yesterday Tuesday at the Dencharge of the Port of Sfax Route, closed since the end of October.
Civil protection units have mobilized since yesterday to master the fire. Two trucks had been devoted to extinguish the fire, according to the regional director of civil protection, Hatem Boubaker, who said that the fire is no danger for the neighboring residential and industrial areas.
The president of the municipal district of the city of Sfax, Mounir Affes, said that it is not a criminal fire, but the result of waste fermentation. He specified that the discharge has been closed for more than 15 days on October 31 and that no one can enter it.
“Those who say that it is a criminal act are mistaken, because there is a fermentation that takes place and caused this fire,” he said, adding that “the fact that the fire declared itself on the side of the marsh proves it well, because no one could have access to this place”.
The governor of Sfax, Fakher Fakhfakh is not of the same opinion as the mayor. Indeed, the governor said, this Wednesday, November 16, 2022, that a complaint was filed against X following the fire.
According to him, the fire is of criminal origin “because some people have no interest in opening the garbage file in the region”.
