Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu qualified the fall of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on Sunday on Sunday, marking the loss of a “central link” of “the axis of evil” led by Iran. He said that this event was “a direct consequence of the strikes imposed on Iran and Hezbollah, the main supporters of the Assad regime”.
These statements have been made from the Golan Plateau, a Syrian territory occupied and annexed by Israel.
Netanyahu also announced that she had ordered the Israeli army to “take control” from the Golan Tampon area as well as “adjacent strategic positions”.
He stressed that this region, under administration of a buffer zone defined by the 1974 forces separation agreement, has been stable for almost 50 years, but that this agreement “collapsed”.
He concluded by affirming that Israel “will not allow any hostile strength to settle at our borders”.
On the sidelines of these declarations, several Israeli strikes have targeted strategic points in the capital Damascus.
