The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohamed Ali Nafti, received on Monday, June 23, 2025 Mrs. Rana Taha. She gave him his official appointment letter, signed by the Secretary General of the United Nations. She will now hold the position of resident coordinator of the UN system in Tunisia.
During this meeting, the minister recalled the strong ties between Tunisia and the UN. He spoke of the important stages of this relationship since independence. He also welcomed the country’s contribution to the United Nations peace missions.
Nafti stressed that the current context requires a new approach. He called to pay more attention to Tunisian priorities. Among them: digital and energy transition, the fight against poverty, the reduction of inequalities between regions, social justice, as well as food and water safety.
He also highlighted the initiative of the President of the Republic. The year 2025 was under the sign of the strengthening of multilateralism and cooperation with the UN. This approach aims to support global efforts for peace, security and development. It is part of a human vision, based on solidarity and international cooperation.
For her part, Rana Taha said the UN’s commitment to strengthen her actions in Tunisia. She insisted on the importance of better coordination of common programs. She wants them to be better suited to the real needs of the country.
The coordinator also mentioned the preparation of the new framework of cooperation. This will cover the period 2027-2030. It will aim to support development efforts taking into account the priorities set by Tunisia.
