Tunisia: more than 14,000 soldiers have participated in UN missions since 1969

Tunisia celebrates this Tuesday, June 24, 2025 the 69th anniversary of the creation of the national army. On the occasion of this 69th anniversary, those responsible for the Ministry of Defense highlighted the international contributions of the Tunisian armed forces as well as the efforts made to strengthen the technical and professional skills of young Tunisians.

Invited on national radio waves, Colonel Osama Hajjej spoke about the main missions of the military institution, at the forefront of which the defense of the country’s sovereignty and the fight against any form of threat, whether internal or external.

Colonel Hajjej stressed that the national army efforts are continuing in several areas, including the neutralization of the vestiges of the Second World War, the intervention in the event of natural disasters, support for rescue, rescue and evacuation operations, and, in some cases, the rehabilitation of infrastructure.

26 UN missions

Regarding the UN missions carried out by the Tunisian army, Colonel Hajjej revealed that since 1969, Tunisia has participated in 26 peacekeeping operations, mobilizing more than 14,000 Tunisian soldiers.

Tunisian participation is still continuing today, especially within the framework of the United Nations mission in the Central African Republic, with more than 800 soldiers deployed.

A rapid intervention helicopter unit, a slight rapid intervention company, a light infantry battalion, an air transport unit, and a strategic air transport unit in Tunisia, made available to the UN, make up the workforce of this mission.

In addition, Colonel Hajjej presented the new orientations of the national army by 2030, by emphasizing the will of the military institution to strengthen its scientific and technological research system, in response to global technological advances and to the evolution of the nature of threats.

Vocational training in several specialties

On the sidelines of this celebration, Captain Thouraya Hamdouni highlighted the engagement of the Ministry of Defense in the field of vocational training by indicating, also on national radio waves, that the Ministry of National Defense provides professional training in several specialties spread over 12 centers, with a capacity of 1638 places, extensible according to needs.

She said that the ministry’s vocational training system includes three components: vocational training, professional learning and professional retraining.

Regarding vocational training, it is available in three diplomas according to the candidate’s school level: the Certificate of Manual Aptitude (CAM) for levels ranging from the 6th year of basic to the 9th year not completed, the certificate of professional competence (CCP) for students from 9th to second second not completed, and the professional technician certificate (BTP) for candidates who reached the 3rd secondary. of the baccalaureate.

Professional learning, on the other hand, is intended for people with a school level below the 6th year, with a capacity of 480 places, through 11 workshops and 16 specialties, intended exclusively for civilians.

Regarding professional retraining, it is intended for graduates of higher education or holders of national diplomas.

To register for the ministry’s vocational training system, those interested can go to the Bouchoucha reception office. She also indicated that an registration scanning work is underway, with the objective of soon launching remote applications via dedicated applications.
