Gathered in Tunis for the third edition of the GH2 Camp, 28 young people from Europe and the Arab world explore the opportunities of green hydrogen. Between technical training, debates and hackathon, this initiative aims to form a new generation of climate actors and energy innovation.
Green hydrogen inspires a new generation of innovators. From July 7 to 11, 28 young talents aged 20 to 30, from all over the MENA region and Europe, participate in the third edition of the GH2 Camp – From Theory to Action, organized at the École Polytechnique in Tunis. An event at the same time trainer, mobilizing and carrying a shared vision for a sustainable energy future.
A regional dynamic in favor of the climate
Coming from Tunisia, Morocco, Algeria, Palestine, Egypt, Germany and Jordan, participants take part in a summer school and hackathon dedicated to green hydrogen, organized by the Med-Gem network, with the support of the European Union.
The event is implemented in partnership with GIZ Tunisie, through the H2VERT.TUN project, sponsored by the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and executed in collaboration with the Tunisian Ministry of Industry, Mines and Energy.
Tunisian engineering schools, including ENIT and the Polytechnic School in Tunisia, are among the key academic supports of this initiative, relayed by the communication platform in Neighbours South.
Three days of technical immersion and collective reflection
During the first three days (July 7 to 9), young innovators followed an intensive program combining technical courses, interactive workshops and team works, led by specialists from the Med-Gem network and partner institutions.
Among the subjects covered:
- Hydrogen production technologies and H2 value chain,
- The Power-to-X (PTX), its products, its infrastructure and its economic models,
- the socio-economic impacts of green hydrogen in the region,
- regulatory executives, durability issues,
- As well as communication and pitching modules, essential for upcoming hackathon.
A Tunisian roadmap at the heart of the debates
The official opening of the camp was marked by the interventions of Frank Wouters (Med-Gem), Professor Chiheb Bouden (ENIT), Dorra Chida (Giz Tunisie) and Dr. Manef Abderrabba (Polytechnic School of Tunis).
Participants were able to explore in depth the Tunisian roadmap for hydrogen as well as the technical, economic and regulatory challenges to be met. A lively debate on the question “where and how to launch a PTX market in the MENA region?” »Has aroused nourished exchanges.
Among the highlights: a practical communication session in communication, intended to prepare the teams for the final hackathon, where they will have to design and present innovative projects around green hydrogen.
