Tunisia: 20 new buses in circulation in the Grand Tunis

A first series of new buses was put into service this Thursday, July 24, 2025 as part of the national public transportation program. These vehicles are part of a vast plan aimed at modernizing and expanding the bus national park.

According to Nabil MasmoudiCentral Director of Operation at the Société des Transports de Tunis (TransTu), 20 buses were divided between five large deposits covering the entire great Tunis : Charguia, El Bokri, Zahrouni, Bir Kassaa and Bab Saâdoun. Each of these centers has received four buses, pending the next deliveries which will gradually arrive, depending on the coordination in progress with customs services and logistics centers, he told Mosaic FM.

Regarding the preservation of public facilities, he launched an appeal to collective responsibility: “We must act together to end vandalism. These buses are a public good that must be protected, ”said Masmoudi.

A security presence is planned during the first days to support the commissioning and awareness of users to the importance of preserving these new equipment.

Satisfied but vigilant citizens

Users interviewed declared themselves overall satisfied with the arrival of these new buses, welcoming their quality. However, they have underlined the urgency of better organization in the operation and distribution of vehicles, while requesting a Reinforcement of sanctions Against acts of vandalism that harm the quality of service and cost the state dear.

An ambitious plan of more than 1,300 buses in progress

This launch is part of a National Public Transport Strengthest Programincluding in particular:

  • The acquisition of 300 buses from Chinadelivered on June 17 and July 12, 2025.
  • The signature of a contract for 418 buses as part of an international tender.
  • The signature scheduled for September 2025 of a Agreement to import 200 Swiss Bus already operational.
  • THE Launch of a call for tenders for 35 metro trains.
  • And, recently, the purchase authorization of 397 additional buses of Saudi origin.

In total, they are Over 1300 new buses which should gradually integrate the regional fleets, in order to Unclog circuits, improve punctuality and strengthen the quality of the public service.
