On Saturday July 27, 2024 at 6:00 p.m., a ceremony will take place in the Tahar Cheriaa room in the Cité de la Culture in Tunis, marking the 40th day of the death of Khémais Khayati, the great Tunisian film critic. This ceremony, organized by the Tunisian Association for Cinematographic Promotion (ATPCC), the National Center for Cinema and Image, and the Tunisian Cinematheque, will be a moment of meditation and memory to honor the man and his immense contribution to the cinema.
Khémais Khayati, an emblematic and respected figure in the cinematographic environment, which left us on June 18left behind a rich and precious heritage. His passion for cinema, his generosity and his talent have marked several generations of moviegoers and cinema professionals. This posthumous tribute promises to be moving and poignant, bringing together those who have been affected by his work and his personality.
The ceremony will start with the projection of a 6 -minute video, retracing the childhood and youth of Khémais Khayati, offering an intimate overview of his first years. Will follow testimonies from his family, notably of his wife Aouatef and his daughter Erige, who will share their memories and their love for this exceptional man.
A second 11 -minute video will then be broadcast, highlighting its professional career, its successes, and its lasting influence on Tunisian and international cinema.
A highlight of the ceremony will be the signing of the collective work Khémaïs Khayati, reflections on his critical work, A publication bringing together contributions from those who have been inspired by his work.
The friends of Khémais Khayati will also speak to pay tribute to their comrade, sharing anecdotes and personal memories which underline his generosity and his benevolence. A third 5-minute video will be projected in tribute to Khémais, followed by a fourth 10-minute video, a cinema lesson given by Khémais Khayati himself, recalling his unique vision and his pedagogy.
The significant moments of its TV programs will also be revisited through carefully selected extracts, testifying to its charismatic presence on the screen. His colleagues will speak to underline his professional and human impact, highlighting his role as mentor and faithful friend.
The three -part exhibition entitled Khémais Khayati: the passion for the image will be presented:
– Khémais Khayati, the enthusiast of photography, where his talents behind the lens will be highlighted.
– Exhibition of certain personal effects of Khémais, offering a more intimate overview of the man behind the critic.
– editing of some of his photos, commented by his own voice, allowing to rediscover his art and his unique vision.
This tribute ceremony on the 40th day of his death will be an opportunity for all those who knew him and admired to meet to celebrate the life and work of Khémais Khayati. His passion, his generosity and his talent continue to resonate, inspiring the future generations of filmmakers and criticisms.
