The Tunis court of first instance sentenced, at first instance, Khatib Idrissi to 22 years’ imprisonment for facts related to terrorism. He is accused of prompting armed groups in Syria and having participated. Considered one of the Salafist current leaders in Tunisia, he was arrested in 2023 in the Sidi Bouzid region.

The criminal chamber specializing in terrorism affairs has made a 22 -year -old verdict of prison against Khatib Idribi. Other accused, some detainees and others on the run, were also sentenced in the same file.
They are prosecuted to encourage terrorist organizations and participation in fighting in Syria alongside jihadist groups. In 2023, Khatib Idrissi had been arrested with two other people in the Sidi Ali Ben Aoun (governorate of Sidi Bouzid), during a targeted security operation.
Three other individuals, currently on the run, are also the subject of prosecution for the same charges.
Arrested for the first time in 2015
Khatib Idrissi is known as one of the influential figures of jihadist Salafism in Tunisia. He was arrested for the first time in 2015, in execution of a mandate to bring issued by an investigating judge, but had then been released. His name was regularly cited in cases related to the recruitment of young Tunisians for jihad in Syria.
This affair is part of a context of continuous fight against jihadist networks, in particular those active in the rural and border areas of the country.
