Tunisia: new operations against infractions on Tunisian beaches

Two successive campaigns were carried out on July 22 and 23, 2025 on the beaches of Hammam Ghezaz, El Haouaria (Nabeul governorate) and Hassi Jerbi in Zarzis (Médenine governorate), in order to enforce the maritime public domain. They gave rise to seizures, destruction of illegal structures, and minutes for various offenses.

Tuesday, July 22, a control operation was carried out by sea guard, the municipalities of Hammam Ghezaz and El Haouaria, and the regional office of the Littoral Protection and Development Agency (APAL) in Nabeul.

This campaign has made it possible to draw up several minutes of offenses; to enter parasols installed without authorization; to destroy 20 light structures installed in an illegal way.

In addition, the beaches of Hammam Ghezaz, El Haouaria and Ezzahra have been the subject of a mechanical and manual cleaning, as part of the sand sieving program, the cleaning of the dunes and the clearance of access.

On Wednesday, July 23, another campaign took place at Hassi Jerbi beach in Zarzis, under the supervision of the Apal regional office in Médenine, in coordination with the sea guard and the municipality of Zarzis Nord.

This intervention targeted anarchic installations (unauthorized shops or shelters) and non-compliance with the conditions of the authorizations granted. Minutes have been drawn up against several offenders.

Each summer, Tunisian beaches face an increasing anarchic occupation and illegal business practices that hinder access to the public and degrade natural sites.

The APAL, with the support of the security forces and the municipalities, regularly conducts control, cleaning and repression operations, in order to preserve the integrity of the maritime public domain.
