The National Meteorology Center (INM) updated this Tuesday its meteorological vigilance card, classifying the gob in Kébili, Tozeur and Gafsa in orange alert level, due to the very high temperatures combined with winds from Sirocco (الشهيلي).

The Institute warns that this situation represents an increased risk for health, especially for:

  • the elderly,

  • individuals under regular medical treatment,
  • isolated people,

Health recommendations

INM recalled the symptoms of a heat stroke: body temperature exceeding 40 ° C, hot skin, red and dry, headache, nausea, drowsiness, intense thirst, mental disorders, convulsions, even loss of consciousness.

The key recommendations to follow are:

  • Drink water regularly, even without thirst.
  • Maintain a balanced diet.
  • Refresh the body several times a day.
  • Avoid going out between noon and 4 p.m.
  • In case of exit:
    • Wear a hat or head cover, protect your eyes with sunglasses, wear clear, loose and light clothes, stay if possible 2 to 3 hours a day in a cool or air-conditioned place,
    • Reduce physical activity.

At home, it is advised:

  • To close windows and shutters during the day,
  • To ventilate the night,
  • And in case of discomfort or abnormal behavior, to contact a doctor or civil protection in the 198.

Other regions concerned

Other governorates are placed in yellow vigilance, in particular: Jendouba, Béja, Zaghouan, Kef, Siliana, Sidi Bouzid, Kasserine, Tataouine and Medenine, where special attention is also required during activities sensitive to climatic conditions.
