During a dialogue session at the National Council of Regions and Districts, the Minister of the Interior assured that the security situation is under control. But the authorities are facing an upsurge in drug trafficking, as evidenced by the recent seizure of a million Ecstasy tablets in Nabeul.
Stability maintained despite criminal threats
Interior Minister Khaled Nouri said on Monday, July 14, 2025, that the security situation in Tunisia remains generally stable, despite an increase in criminal and regional threats. He was expressed during a dialogue session with the members of the National Council of Regions and Districts, at the CNRD headquarters in Bardo.
The Minister praised the efforts made by the police, stressing the effectiveness of updated security plans and the increased coordination between the various security bodies. He also insisted on the essential role of preventive intelligence, which made it possible to thwart several projects of criminal acts and to dismantle international networks, especially in drug trafficking and the trafficking of human beings.
Ecstasy record entry: a network dismantled in Nabeul
A few weeks before this ministerial intervention, the National Guard had announced a historic draft. On April 19, 2025, its units seized moreOne million Ecstasy tablets in Nabeulfor a market value estimated at more than 40 million dinars.
The operation was based on several months of investigations carried out by the investigation and intelligence department. The police have arrested several members of a structured international network, seized with luxury cars used for the transport of goods, as well as a large sum of money. Prosecutions have been initiated for importation, drug trafficking, money laundering and criminal association.
Punch operations throughout the country
This record entry is part of A series of operations carried out in several governorates. Between April and July 2025, security campaigns made the arrest of 217 individuals in Kairouan and Sidi Bouzidthe entry of thousands of psychotropic tablets, the defending of networks involving foreigners, and the recovery of money and vehicles used in traffic.
In 2024, nearly 5,000 traffickers had been arrestedagainst just over 3000 the previous year, according to figures from the Ministry of the Interior. The port of La Goulette also remains a hot spot, with several large -scale drug seizures over the past two years.
A multifaceted threat, a global response
Khaled Nouri said that interventions target schools, nightclubs, tourist areas and distribution circuits where networks seek to sell their products, especially during the summer. He recalled that drug barons sometimes act under commercial coverage, by operating the import-export circuits.
The Minister praised the close collaboration between his services and the public prosecutor. However, he warned that the fight against drugs cannot be led by the police alone. He calls for collective mobilization, involving the family, school and civil society, to sustainably stop this scourge.
If Tunisia maintains security stability at the national level, the pressure exerted by criminal networks, in particular those linked to drug trafficking, requires constant vigilance and a multidimensional response.
