The strike scheduled for Wednesday, July 16, 2025 in the Tunisian and gas company (STEG) was canceled following an agreement found between the management of the company and the union representatives, after twelve hours of intense negotiations. This was announced on Tuesday, the Echaab News media, affiliated with the Tunisian Labor Union (UGTT).
The discussions, started on Monday and continued until dawn on Tuesday July 15, brought together several stakeholders, including the Minister of Social Affairs, the Secretary of State for the Energy Transition, representatives of the Presidency of the Government, as well as the management of STEG. On the union side, the general federation of electricity and gas, led by Slaheddine Selmi, deputy secretary general of the UGTT, led the negotiations.
The agreement relates to a set of professional demands made by the agents of the public company. The details of the agreement have not yet been made public, but the conclusion of the dialogue made it possible to avoid a strike which risked disrupting an essential service in the middle of the summer season.
