A fishing boat with ten fishermen on board was shipwrecked this Thursday, April 25, 2024 off the coast of Monastir
The port of Mahdia detected a call indicating that a fishing boat had undergone a water leak and was flowing 32 miles from the coasts of Monastir and 19 miles from the island of Kuriat.
A joint team of the Maritime Guard and the Navy in coordination with the fishing boats started looking for the shipwrecked.
The deputy prosecutor and spokesperson for the courts of Monastir and Mahdia, Farid Ben Jeha, then confirmed that a trawler from Sfax sank off the coast of Monastir, with eight sailors on board.
He added in a declaration on the waves of Diwan FM that four bodies were found and 3 other fishermen were rescued by another fishing boat, stressing that one of the sailors is still missing.
On the waves of Mosaique FM, Farid Ben Jeha then announced a new assessment, confirming on the waves of Mosaique FM that five fishermen could be rescued and that five bodies were found on the ten fishermen present on the boat.
