The United States has conducted large-scale air strikes in Yemen, killing at least 31 people after Donald Trump warned the Houthis against any attack on ships in the Red Sea.
This offensive, the most significant since Trump’s return to the White House, comes as the Houthis threatened to attack the ships linked to Israel because of the blockade on Gaza.
The bombings touched Sanaa, Saada and Al-Bayda, causing the death of many women and children, according to the Ministry of Health Houthi. In response, the Houthis denounced an “American-British assault” and promised reprisals.
Trump defended this operation as a demonstration of “overwhelming lethal force” and summoned Iran to immediately stop supporting the Houthis. “Your time is sold,” he warned on Truth Social.
Tehran condemned these strikes, describing them as a blatant violation of international law.
On the ground, the Yemeni population lives in fear. “The explosions were so powerful that an earthquake would have been said,” said a resident of Sanaa.
The Trump administration justifies these attacks by the Houthie threat to navigation in the Red Sea, although the group has not yet made its threats.
