Libya strengthens the surveillance of its border with Tunisia

The Libyan Ministry of the Interior has announced the strengthening of security patrols along the border with Tunisia, as part of a plan aimed at consolidating border surveillance and combating smuggling and irregular immigration.

This decision comes as the border region remains a sensitive point of crossing for various traffic, including fuel, goods and people.

According to a statement published on the official Facebook page of the ministry, these new patrols have been deployed in a large border segment. This initiative is carried out under the supervision of border care, in accordance with the instructions of the Libyan authorities.

The press release specifies that these patrols aim to dissuade illicit activities and strengthen the capacity of the security forces to identify and neutralize smuggling networks operating in the region.

Libya, faced with persistent instability since the fall of the Muammar Gaddafi regime in 2011, thus seeks to better control its land borders, often exploited by criminal groups and smugglers.

This initiative comes in a context of regional security tensions, while Tunisia and Libya are trying to coordinate their efforts to ensure better management of their common border.

However, despite these efforts, the Tunisian-Libyan border remains a major challenge due to the porosity of certain areas and the strong activity of clandestine networks. Several analysts believe that only reinforced bilateral cooperation and international commitment could allow more effective management of security and migration challenges in this strategic region.
