A 19 -year -old bachelor, from Enfidha, died yesterday Thursday August 15, from the rage after being scratched by a cat.

According to the statements of the Regional Director of Sousse Health, Chokri Loussif, at Mosaic FM, the young man had been scratched by a cat by a cat last March, which had led him to the emergency room of Enfidha, where he had received a first dose of anti -rabic vaccine.

He added that the young man had gone to the Enfidha dispensary to receive a second dose of the vaccine, but that he had not completed the rest of the necessary doses and preventive measures in this kind of situation.

This led to the appearance of advanced rabies symptoms, transmitted by the cat about three and a half months after the incident, such as the reduction in movements.

The young man was admitted to intensive care at the Farhat Hached university hospital two weeks ago, in critical condition. He was placed under artificial breathing, but died last night.

The Regional Director of Sousse Health has confirmed that the analysis of the cerebrospinal fluid, carried out at the Pasteur Institute, turned out to be positive.

The dean of the veterinarians, Ahmed Rajab, had sounded the alarm concerning the propagation of the rage in Tunisia, describing the situation of “catastrophic”. He announced that the number of deaths among those affected by this disease reached 6 people in the first half of this year, the equivalent of the total of the deaths recorded for the whole year 2023 because of this disease.
