Air New Zealand will weigh its passengers for an investigation

This measure is part of an investigation into the load and the distribution of weight in its line planes.

Until July 2, some international travelers who will borrow the airfares from the Air New Zealand company will have to weigh before boarding.

Commanded by the Authority of Civil Aviation of New Zealand, this measure aims to collect data on the load and the distribution of weight in the aircraft.

“We weigh everything that enters the plane – from freight to meals on board, including luggage in the hold. For customers, crew and cabin luggage, we use average weights, which we obtain by making this survey, “said Alastair James, responsible for improving the control of Air New Zealand.

Travelers are now invited to weigh on a digital balance during recording. The participation, based on volunteering, remains discreet.

“We are aware that getting on the balance may be intimidating. We want to reassure our passengers, no data will be visible anywhere, ”specifies Alastair James.

Through this initiative, Air New Zealand, wishes to more precisely calculate the average weight of a passenger: an investigation had been conducted in 2003 by the authority of neo-Zealand civil aviation (CAA), which revealed that the average weight of a passenger and his hand luggage was 85.4 kilograms, according to Forbes.
