A few hours after the announcement of the postponement of the general strike planned in the agricultural sector, President Kaïs Saïed received yesterday, Wednesday July 16, at the Palais de Carthage the Minister of Social Affairs, Issam Lahmar, to set the tone: reform social funds in depth and put social justice at the heart of the national project.
This presidential reaction intervenes in a context of Active social dialoguemarked by the persistence of professional demands and the examination of several sensitive economic files.
A provisional union compromise
The strike, initially scheduled for this Wednesday, July 16, was postponed to August 20 Following a conciliation meeting held the same morning at the Ministry of Social Affairs, in the presence of union representatives and the directions concerned. According to the UGTT, several commitments have been made:
- Transmission to the presidency of the government of basic organization projects for agricultural establishments, before August ;
- Adoption of texts By the end of 2025according to a progressive calendar;
- Meeting scheduled for August 15 to examine the productivity bonuses of the cereal office (2021–2023);
- Revaluation of meal vouchers and processing of precarious workers’ files in state domains;
- Kasbah referral on July 17 To set a follow -up meeting.
The president specifies the framework
Received in the afternoon, the minister heard firm presidential instructions: Review in a “radical” way the functioning of social funds so that they find their balance and their role. The president insisted on the need to rethink social policies:
“The social role of the State is neither a favor nor a grace, but a legitimate right which calls for new thought and innovative methods of action,” he said.
If he has not weighed directly on the union compromise, The president reacted by posing a broader strategic frameworkindicating that social advances must be part of a coherent and sustainable reform policy.
