Tunisian customs has just strengthened its digital system to better support Tunisians residing abroad. In media statements on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, Colonel Elyes Belkheir, in charge of communication with Tunisians from abroad to the Directorate General of Customs, announced the establishment of a specific customs declaration system.
This system centralizes all data relating to import, export operations, declarations and regularization of imported vehicles. The major innovation lies in an application intended for the automated calculation of customs taxes and duties on cars, specially designed for Tunisians abroad.
Directly connected to the centralized customs information system, called “Sanad”, this application guarantees a daily and automated analysis of vehicle data. It thus allows better decision -making for users and ensures total transparency in administrative procedures.
The user can access this service via the official Tunisian customs website (www.douane.gov.tn). It is enough for him to enter the information concerning his vehicle as well as the date of entry into Tunisian territory. The system then performs an automatic evaluation of the value of the vehicle as well as taxes and duties due. The amount can be set either in imported currency, or via a currency account in Tunisia or by transfer from abroad, thus contributing to the mobilization of foreign currency resources.
Another incentive measure announced: a partial exemption mechanism in force until October 31, 2025. Vehicles recorded in the Tunisian series “ن.ت” for more than two years benefit from a 70 % discount on customs duties and taxes. The beneficiaries must submit their regularization requests before this date and make full payment before December 31, 2025 to recover their vehicle or motorcycle.
