Large-tunis: neither water nor electricity in full heat wave!

This Monday, July 21, 2025, the inhabitants of several districts of the Grand Tunis record water and electricity cuts. While the thermometer happily exceeds 45 ° C in the shade, it is a real ordeal that citizens live, between out of service fans, air conditioners, and desperately dry taps.

SONEDE (National Society for Operating and Distribution of Water) has announced a major disruption in the supply of drinking water, attributed to a sudden electrical failure which occurred at the main transformer of the GHDIR EL GOLLA pumping station. A breakdown which, according to his press releases, is completely independent of his will.

But while the Sonede tries as best they can to communicate, the STEG (Tunisian Society of Electricity and Gas), it remains silent. No official explanation, no alert, no calendar returning to normal. A silence that adds to the misunderstanding and anger of citizens.

In certain soukra, Mnihla, El Mourouj or Borj Louzir, the inhabitants organize themselves as they can. Ixes, water bottles stored in advance – for those who had the presence of mind – become the survival tools of a daily life paralyzed by this double cut.

Has Steg resorted to load shedding? This is a preventive or emergency measure taken by electricity suppliers to relieve the electrical network in the event of imbalance between supply (production) and demand (consumption), especially during heat waves, consumption peak or major failure?

On social networks, messages are flocking and several citizens are indignant while others point to the lack of coordination between the two public companies, supposed to guarantee vital services, especially in times of consumption peak.
