Golden Globes 2025: Nominations announced

The Golden Globes® announced the appointments for the 82nd annual edition of the Golden Globes®, which will be broadcast live on Sunday January 5, 2025 at 5:00 pm PT/8:00 p.m. and on CBS and streaming on Paramount+ in the United States. Mindy Kaling and Morris Chestnut presented the nominees for each of the 27 price categories at a press conference at Beverly Hilton. This year, the voters’ body is made up of 334 journalists from 85 different countries.

Considered as “the Hollywood® festival”, the Golden Globes® celebrate the best of cinema and television. This 82ᵉ edition will be orchestrated by Glenn Weiss and Ricky Kirshner, a duo rewarded at the Emmy Awards®, as executive producers and showrunners. The ceremony, produced by Dick Clark Productions, is broadcast in more than 185 countries and territories around the world. This year’s votes were certified by KPMG, a firm specializing in audit, taxation and advice.

Films at the head of nominations

This year, several films stand out for the number of appointments: Emilia Pérez dominate with 10 appointmentsfollowed by The brutalist with 7 nominations,, Conclave gets 6 appointmentswhile Anora And The substance each win 5 appointments.

It should be remembered that three of these films had made their first at the Cannes Film Festival, Anora having won the Palme d’Or, The Substance having won the Prize for the best scenario and Emilia Pérez having won the jury prize, the best female interpretation price for the whole cast and the price of the best composer for its soundtrack.

The doubles named: Kate Winslet, Sebastian Stan and Selena Gomez

Some artists also shine with multiple appointments:

  • Kate Winslet is appointed for best actress in a dramatic film (Lee) and for best actress in a mini-series or a film for television (The Regime).
  • Sebastian Stan contributes for best actor in a dramatic film (The Apprentice) and for best actor in a musical or comic film (A different man).
  • Selena Gomez is in the running for best actress in a supporting role in a film (Emilia Pérez) and for better actress in a comic or musical series (Only Murders in the Building).

Historical milestones for Denzel Washington and Hans Zimmer

With his 11ᵉ nomination, Denzel Washington becomes the most named black artist in the history of the Golden Globes, further strengthening his legendary status.

Hans Zimmerthanks to his partition for Dune: Two sharereached his 16ᵉ appointment, approaching the record of 24 appointments held by John Williams. A victory would place him on a par with Williams and Dimitri Tiomkin with 4 Golden Globes for the best original music. He would also become the first to win consecutive prizes for a soundtrack and his suite (Dune And Dune: Two share).
