Djerba-Zarzis International Airport celebrated this Saturday, November 2, the return of direct flights from the United Kingdom, after an absence of ten years.
This first flight, who left London, transported 147 British tourists, marking the revival of the interest of British visitors for the Djerba destination.
This inaugural flight will be followed by other regular rotations from London and Manchester, bringing the number of weekly flights to four directly connecting the United Kingdom to Djerba -zis. Hichem Mahouachi, regional tourism commissioner in Médenine, in a statement to the TAP agency, praised this recovery, calling it “key moment” to support the promotion of Djerba during the winter, in order to strengthen the 2025 tourist season.
For the occasion, tourists were welcomed with flowers by regional tourism officials, a gesture appreciated before their transfer to the island’s hotels. According to data provided by Mahouachi, Djerba-Zarzis is approaching this year of the million visitors, with already 941,000 arrivals recorded and a total of 5.6 million nights on October 10. September was distinguished by an occupancy rate of more than 90 %, a favorable dynamic that was maintained in October.
The arrival of British visitors thus symbolizes a development phase for Djerba-Zarzis, strengthening the international visibility of this popular destination and further diversifying its audience.
