More than 200 kg of cannabis resin were seized and a dozen people of different nationalities were arrested, during the weekend, in an ambush stretched by the police in the North of Tunis.
According to a press release from the Ministry of the Interior, information reached the fight against the fight against narcotics on Saturday (falling under the management of the judicial police) that a large amount of cannabis was hidden in an apartment located in the Carthage gardens.
After investigation, the police were able to identify the owner of the apartment which would have used his vehicle to transport 5 large suitcases in which 226 kg of cannabis resin were stored. He was arrested in Gammarth, in the North suburbs of Tunis. Seven people, of different nationalities, were in his company at the time of his arrest.
The individual in question admitted to having transported the amount of cannabis seized. “A total of 2262 cannabis plates were seized (226 kg) worth 6 million dinars,” said the interior department.
After consultation with the prosecution, nine people were arrested and two vehicles were seized in addition to the quantity of cannabis resin found in the apartment.
