The sensitive file of real estate left by foreigners resurfaces. Speaking this Monday, July 21, 2025 on national radio waves, Mohamed Essighi, director general at the cabinet of the Minister of State and Land Affairs, revealed that more than 7,600 real estate belonging to foreigners are today concerned by regularization procedures.
According to him, these goods are divided into two main categories: a first, of approximately 3,600 properties, transferred to the Tunisian State thanks to agreements with France; A second, made up of approximately 4000 goods, still remains legally in the hands of their owners or the right.
But this often forgotten heritage is threatened by time. A large part of these buildings, the construction of which dates back to the pre-independence, is in a state of advanced dilapidation, subject to the legal regime of real estate threatening ruin.
An ant is underway to identify and regularize these goods. Inventory operations are already completed in the governorates of Nabeul and Zaghouan, while efforts are continuing in other regions to accelerate the transfer procedures.
Mohamed Essighi calls on the parties concerned – notably tenants – to cooperate to accelerate regularization, providing the necessary documents, namely: proof of the rental relationship, an identity document and an honor declaration.
