Nearly 1,000 Israeli reservists, mainly from the Air Force, signed a letter demanding the end of the war in Gaza yesterday. They accuse Netanyahu of compromising the release of the hostages to serve its personal political interests.
“War serves political interests, not security interests,” they say. “Continuing will lead to the death of the hostages, soldiers and innocent civilians. »»
This opposition, presented as courageous, is only the umpteenth repetition of a well -established show which serves Israeli diplomatic interests without ever influencing its policy. In 1982, after the massacres of Sabra and Chatila, pilots had expressed their “concerns” without consequences. In 2003, the alleged rebellion of 27 pilots against the targeted assassinations in the West Bank did not change anything. In 2014, the revelations of the members of unit 8200 on the surveillance of the Palestinians remained a dead letter.
These episodes of mediated “dissent” give the illusion of an internal democratic debate, but reality on the ground remains relentless. Even today, when we deplore 10 dead, including seven children in a new Israeli strike in Gaza, and the results have been more than 1,240 dead since Israel has interrupted the break and relaunched its offensive, military operations continue without interruption despite international convictions. In 2025, while the Hebrew state is accused of genocide, this new “sling” arrives opportunely to soften its image without changing anything deep.
The reality is more cynical: these challenges are perfectly integrated into the power communication strategy. They serve as a valve to release international pressure, without ever questioning the war machine. While the media ranges on this handful of “courageous” reservists, thousands of others perform orders without moods in Gaza.
History is repeated: after each pseudo-concestation, Israeli policy remains unchanged, even hardens. Colonization intensifies, the bombings continue, and the Palestinian oppression worsens. This “sling” is only a smoke curtain masking a system that has transformed dissent into a propaganda tool.
