JCC 2024 – Detailed projections program

This evening, Carthage’s cinematographic days (JCC) are opening up for a long -awaited edition, which will take place from December 14 to 21, 2024. Like every year, this emblematic event of Arab and African cinema promises a rich and varied program, attracting moviegoers, professionals and amateurs of the seventh art.

This year, the program is distinguished by a selection of diversified, recent and old films, including several works that have been awarded at prestigious international festivals. Among them, the Iranian film Mohammad Rasoulof’s wild figure seedscrowned with four prizes at the Cannes Film Festival, Appointed for the Golden Globe for the best international film and chosen by Germany to represent it at the 2025 Oscars. The Indian Payal Kapadia will present All We Im Imagine AS Light, Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival. The Lebanese Arzé, directed by Mira Shaibwon two awards at the Cairo International Film Festival.

The selection also includes the Egyptian documentary Abu Zaabal 89 of Bassam Mortada, distinguished by the Prize for best documentary at the Cairo International Film Festivalas well as Inshallah a boy of amjad al rasheedwinner of the Gan Foundation Award for Distribution in Cannes. Finally, The story of Souleymane de Boris Lojkine, awarded with the jury prize and the best actor in the “Un Certain Regard” section in Cannes, will also be projected.

Tunisian films are not to be outdone, with several titles present in competition and out of competition. Among them, The red children of Lotfi Achourrecently Awarded the best director and the best film at the Red Sea International Film Festival,, Aïcha by Mehdi Barsaoui, who had made his first at the Venice Festival, and The Walid Mattar bridgeselected at the Cairo International Film Festival. The Tunisian scene will also be represented by many other captivating works.

In addition, the JCCs will organize two special sessions: the first devoted to Dorra Zarrouk’s documentary film, The life that remainsand the second presenting in the world preview its latest creation, Ennafoura “La Maison Dorée”. This last projection will be a tribute to the filmmaker Salma Baccar.

Another highlight of this edition will be the tribute to the Palestinian director Hany Abu-Assad. It will be an opportunity to rediscover his striking works, in particular Omar. The Idol, the singer of GazaAnd Paradise Nowappointed for the Oscar for the best film in a foreign language in 2006.

The festival management has finally unveiled the complete screening program, available below. The meeting is made for a week under the sign of emotion, reflection and the celebration of cinema in all its diversity.
