A major advance was carried out at the CHU Habib Bourguiba in Sfax, where two surgical operations were successfully carried out to treat congenital heart defects in children. This is a first in the region.
This medical feat, carried out on November 29, is part of a partnership between Tunisia and Germany in cardiovascular surgery. The interventions were carried out by the team of the Cardiovascular Surgery Service of the CHU, in collaboration with a specialized team from Cologne, Germany. These operations benefited from advanced medical equipment recently acquired by the hospital.
In addition to the therapeutic component, these operations also represented a precious opportunity for Tunisian doctors, who were able to perfect their skills thanks to practical training on this type of complex interventions.
This success illustrates the importance of international partnerships to strengthen the capacities of the local health system. Officials also underlined the commitment to continue this medical collaboration, essential for the development of this vital field.
