The President of the Republic, Kais Saied, received yesterday at the Palais de Carthage the Minister of Youth and Sports, Sadok Mourali, to discuss the bill of sports structures.
Insisting on the need for total transparency, he underlined the importance of setting up a clear legal framework to better supervise sporting disciplines, denouncing a hybrid, neither completely professional nor amateur system, which promotes abuse and corruption.
Saied also pointed out the deterioration of sports infrastructure, including the Olympic city of El Menzah and the Zouiten stadium. According to him, this degradation does not only result from a lack of maintenance, but from a premeditated strategy aimed at appropriating these spaces. He promised to hold those who hinder the renovation of facilities and to fight impunity.
Finally, the Head of State praised the potential of young Tunisian athletes, saying that Tunisia has champions capable of shining on the international scene. He insisted on the importance of investing in infrastructure and a suitable legal framework to allow young talents to wear the country’s colors high.
Recall that at the beginning of the year, the Head of State had already challenged his minister by insinting on the need to end the corruption and brokerage networks which degraded this sector.
