The Minister of Equipment and Housing, Salah Zouari, gave this Friday, July 18, 2025 in Bizerte the kick -off of the deep foundation work of the second section of the main bridge connecting the A4 motorway to the city. This strategic project aims to open up the region and boost its economic attractiveness.
During a field visit made this Friday, July 18, 2025 in the governorate of Bizerte, the Minister of Equipment and Housing, Salah Zouari, gave the starting signal for the deep foundation work of the main section of the permanent connection project between the A4 motorway and the city of Bizerte.
A strategic strategic project
He was accompanied by the governor of the region, Salem Ben Yaakoub, deputies, representatives of the Council of Regions and Districts as well as technical executives and managers of the company responsible for carrying out the project.
The Minister stressed that this project is part of strategic infrastructure projects nationwide, aimed at strengthening the attractiveness of Bizerte, improving its economic competitiveness and facilitating its integration into the national productive fabric.
The component currently launched concerns the deep foundations of the second section, a key phase of the project. These foundations reach a depth of 60 meters, with a diameter greater than 2.5 meters, and will amount to 65 meters above sea level, highlighting the technical scope of the project.
A bridge with multiple benefits
- This new Bizerte bridge aims to solve several issues:
- Fluidifying road traffic between the highway and the city, removing the disturbances caused by the openings of the existing mobile bridge.
- Strengthen maritime navigation by allowing the fluid passage of ships under the work.
- Facilitate the passage of heavy and light vehicles, improving logistical access to the city.
- Stimulate the local economy by simplifying trade and industrial flows, especially in port areas.
The new operational bridge in 2027
The new Bizerte bridge will be ready for two years. It will extend over 2.07 km in length including 900 meters on the canal. The entire project will take a total of 1140 days and will be completed in September 2027.
The project will have a total cost of 1040 million dinars. Funding will come from the state budget, the European Investment Bank and the African Development Bank.
