In an unprecedented joint statement, France, the United Kingdom and Canada have threatened Israel with concrete sanctions if the restrictions on humanitarian aid in Gaza are not lifted.
The three countries denounce a disproportionate Israeli response, unbearable human suffering and threatening remarks of Israeli officials towards the civilian population. They recall that the forced displacement of civilians constitutes a violation of international law.
If they recognize Israel’s right to defend itself after the October 7 attack, they judge that the red line has been crossed. Colonization in the West Bank is also targeted: the locations are deemed illegal and destructive for peace.
Targeted sanctions are on the table. The three countries are calling for a ceasefire, support the New York conference on June 18 and say they are ready to recognize a Palestinian state, as a step towards lasting peace.
