Ahmed Ayoub Hafnaoui, Olympic champion in 2021, suspended following breaches of anti -doping controls

The Tunisian swimmer Ahmed Ayoub Hafnaoui, who marked the history of sport by winning Olympic gold in 2021, is found at the heart of a controversy following a suspension due to violations of the anti -doping rules.

Indeed, the World Aquatics (formerly Final) announced a sanction against Hafnaoui, citing its breach of three unannounced anti -doping controls for a period of 12 months. This non-compliance with the rules, even without a positive test to a prohibited substance, constitutes a serious violation according to the regulations in force.

The suspension proposed by the International Control Agency (ITA) should last 20 months, from July 31, 2024 to March 30, 2026. A ban on participating in any official competition during this period would therefore be applied, if the decision is confirmed.

The athlete has accepted a provisional suspension pending the resolution of the procedure, but this decision did not fail to arouse reactions in the sports world. According to several sources, Hafnaoui and its representatives plan to challenge this suspension before the competent bodies, in particular the Arbitral Tribunal of Sport (TAS).
