On the occasion of the International Day of Helpels, celebrated on May 29, the UN pays tribute to two Tunisians who died on a mission: the first Corporal Béchir Ben Mohamed Dhiabi, deployed in the Central African Republic with the Minusca, and Hichem Fahem, civilian committed with the mission in Libya (Manul).
They are among 57 peacekeepers who died this year during UN operations. As such, they will posthumously receive the medal “Dag Hammarskjöld” during a ceremony chaired by António Guterres at the United Nations in New York.
Tunisia is the 18th world contributor to the UN peacekeeping missions, with 934 soldiers and police, including 60 women, present in particular in sub -Saharan Africa.
This day, established in 2002, pays tribute to the more than 4,400 peacekeepers who have fallen since 1948 in the service of peace.
