Tunisia will take part, this Thursday in Abidjan, in the decisive vote to designate the future president of the African Development Bank (BAD), replacing the current leader Akinwumi Adesina, whose mandate expired on September 1, 2025.
The Tunisian delegation is led by the Minister of the Economy and Planning, Samir Abdelhafidh, who represents Tunisia as governor to the BAD Council. He will participate in the vote on behalf of the country, in a ballot which brings together 81 governors representing both African states and non -African members of the institution.
Five candidates are in the running: Amadou Hott (Senegal), Samuel Munzele Maimbo (Zambia), Sidi Ould Tah (Mauritania), Abbas Mahamat Tolli (Chad) and Bajabulile Swazi Tshabalala (South Africa). The electoral process will continue until a double majority is obtained, as stipulated in the founding agreement of the BAD.
Minister Abdelhafidh thus provides a central role in this strategic deadline for the future of African financial governance.
