A fire broke out on Sunday July 21 in a warehouse in the National Tobacco and Matches (RNA) located in Jebel Jelloud.
According to the information communicated by the authorities, the fire affected a storage space of 1000 square meters containing tobacco.
Civil protection teams intervened and continued cooling and surveillance operations on Monday. The prosecution of the Tunis 2 court of first instance ordered the opening of an investigation to determine the circumstances and causes of the incident.
This event occurs after two other fires in RNA facilities in recent years:
1. In October 2019, a fire occurred in the RNA factory in Kairouan, affecting raw materials. A civil protection agent was injured during the intervention.
2. More recently, a fire took place at the RNA B factory in El Ouardia, mainly touching waste on an area of 2000 square meters. Two people were arrested in connection with this incident.
RNA management filed a complaint following the El Ouardia incident. The authorities examine these events to determine if there are links between them and identify their specific causes.
These incidents raise questions about the safety of RNA installations. The current surveys should bring clarification on the circumstances of these fires and on possible prevention measures to be implemented.
