The Ministry of Industry, Mines and Energy gave this Tuesday the start of the work of the Transversal Energy Security Committee, a new body responsible for coordinating national energy guidelines in the context of the development of the 2026-2030 development plan.
This first meeting, held at the headquarters of the ministry, was chaired by Minister Fatma Thabet Chiboub, in the presence of the Secretary of State for the Energy Transition, Wael Chouchane, and the Cabinet Cheffe, Afef Chechi Tayari. Also participated in representatives of the Ministries of Finance, the Economy and the Planning, as well as managers of public institutions and experts from the Tunisian Institute for Competitiveness and Quantitative Studies.
On the agenda: presentation of the Committee’s composition, definition of its working methodology and first discussions on the axes of strengthening the energy sector, considered as a strategic pillar of the national economy.
In her intervention, the minister insisted on the need to build an integrated energy vision, in harmony with the approach recommended by the President of the Republic, focused on a development of proximity, centered on the citizen. It called for reinforced synergy between the institutions concerned to accelerate the transition to a new energy model based on the diversification of sources.
Ms. Thabet Chiboub also stressed the importance of a plan capable of responding to current challenges, while ensuring the sustainability of public enterprises. It pleaded for the stimulation of investments in hydrocarbons and alternative energies, and for a rapid implementation of legislative reforms to achieve the objectives of the next five -year term.
Created as part of the preparation of the 2026-2030 plan, the Transversal Committee is responsible for developing concrete recommendations to guarantee energy security in the medium and long term. It will notably assess the state of the energy system, anticipate future needs for supply and demand, and offer public policies promoting energy efficiency and increased use of renewable energies, in a logic of national sovereignty.
