The seismic surveillance stations of the National Institute of Meteorology recorded, in the evening of Tuesday, February 4, 2025 (at 9:04 p.m.), a third telluric shock in the city of Meknassi, located in the governorate of Sidi Bouzid. This shock has reached a magnitude of 2.5 on the Richter scale.
Abdelmajid Douzi, head of the weather station of Sidi Bouzid, said on the waves of Mosaic FM that, according to preliminary analyzes, the epicenter of the shock was located at 34.56 degrees of latitude and 9.68 degrees of longitude, east of Meknassi.
It should be recalled that a first shock was recorded Monday morning February 3, 2025 at 10:45 am, with a magnitude of 4.9 on the Richter scale. According to the National Institute of Meteorology (INM), this shock was felt by the inhabitants of the region. A second replica shock, of a magnitude of 2.6, was then detected around 5:11 pm.
This is reminiscent of the three successive telluric jerks recorded on December 15, 2024 in the region of Kasserine, southwest of Hassi El Ferid with magnitudes varying between 3.3 and 4.1 degrees on the Richter scale.
