In two weeks, two stabbed teachers

Violence in schools in Tunisia continues to worry the teaching staff. This Tuesday, November 5, Ikbel Azzabi, deputy secretary general of the General Union of Basic Education, confirmed, on the waves of Mosaique FM, the violent assault of the teacher of a primary school Aya Charni.

The incident took place in Bardo, where she was stabbed in the belly and by hand after granting a 2/20 note to a student. According to the first elements, the aggressor who could necessarily be only a elderly person was masked and challenged the teacher in these terms: “You are Aya, the one who puts notes of 2 in the evaluations!” The incident occurred while the teacher left school and was only a few meters from the establishment.

Recurring violence

This attack, unfortunately, is not an isolated case. Ikbel Azabi recalled that a similar incident occurred two weeks ago in Upper Omrane, involving another member of educational staff. A teacher in education sciences, recently assigned to this position, had indeed been attacked with a sharp object by the father of a student, for similar reasons.

A climate of growing fear

Azabi expressed his deep concern about the serious psychological effects that these attacks entail for teachers, who feel more and more exposed and insecure. “This situation becomes the daily bread of educators,” he added, once again calling for strict criminalization of this type of violence.

The phenomenon, in resurgence, feeds a climate of fear and tension in schools, making urgent the implementation of measures to protect members of educational staff and restore a secure framework for the learning of students.
