The first mineral paper plant in Tunisia started production in Kairouan with an investment of 15 million dinars.
Located in the industrial zone of Hajeb El Ayoun, the factory covers 8 hectares and has 20,000 m² of infrastructure. It started with a production capacity of 10,000 tonnes, which should reach 20,000 tonnes by the end of the year.
This project, unprecedented in Tunisia and North Africa, currently generates 60 jobs, with the aim of reaching 200 jobs in three years.
Mineral paper is made from marble residues and is distinguished by its ecological qualities, being biodegradable, recyclable, and resistant to water and oils. It can be used in various sectors, such as publishing, packaging or food and cosmetics.
This project aims to reduce Tunisia’s dependence on paper imports, which cost nearly 1370 million dinars in 2024.
The factory also plans to export to foreign markets, especially in Algeria and Europe.
