The draw for the final phase of the African Basketball Nations Cup (Afrobasket), which will take place from August 12 to 24, 2025 in Luanda (Angola), was carried out this Friday. Tunisia, a double title holder, inherited a group B as balanced as dangerous, where it will cross iron with Nigeria, Cameroon and Madagascar.

Sacred champion in 2017 and 2021, the Tunisian selection will address this continental tournament with the assertive ambition to maintain its dominant power status of African basketball.

But the task will not be easy. Nigeria, five -time African champion (the last title dating back to 2015), remains a formidable opponent, with many talents playing in the NBA and in the European leagues. Cameroon is progressing from year to year and recently impressed during the playoffs. As for Madagascar, outsider of the group, it could well create surprise.

The draw also revealed thrilling posters in other hens. Group A includes Côte d’Ivoire, a finalist of the last edition, the DR Congo, the Cap-Vert of the Géant Walter Tavares, and Rwanda, host of the tournament in 2021.

Group C, for its part, will see Angola, host country and historic giant of African basketball with 11 continental titles, face South Sudan, revelation of recent years, as well as Guinea and Libya.

Finally, the Group D will bring together four nations with high potential: Senegal, Egypt, Mali and Uganda, in a quartet where each match could tip the classification.
