The accusation chamber at the Tunis court of appeal decided to return the former magistrate Béchir Akermi to the criminal chamber of the Tunis court of first instance, the lawyer Hamadi Zafraani, a member of the Defense Collective, on Friday.
The investigating judge and ex-prosecutor of the Republic, revoked in 2021, will be prosecuted for alleged facts of “falsification, detention and use of falsified documents”.
Akermi is notably known for having directed the investigation into the assassinations of opponents of Chokri Belaïd and Mohamed Brahmi, two major figures of the Tunisian political scene killed in 2013.
This new decision comes a few months after the judgment of the Court of Cassation of February 26, 2025, which had canceled a previous decision to refer by the accusation chamber of the Court of Appeal, ordering a re -examination of the file.
The fallen magistrate has been targeted for several years by complaints from the party of United Democratic Patriots and relatives of the two martyrs. A warrant for deposit had been issued against him in 2023, as well as two successive arrest warrants within the framework of these unlimited cases.
