Emmanuel Macron dismisses any participation of France in an offensive operation against Tehran
While the tension rises between Israel and Iran, President Emmanuel Macron clarified the French position in the face of a possible military escalation.
In a context of strong regional instability, marked by exchanges of threats and targeted attacks, the French head of state declared that France “would participate in the protection and defense operations of Israel” in the event of Iranian reprisals, provided that it is “in a situation of doing so”.
However, he wanted to mark a red line: “Conversely, I do not plan to participate in any offensive operation whatsoever,” he said, thus dismissing any direct involvement in a possible attack on Iran.
This declaration is part of a desire to maintain a balanced posture: supporting an ally while avoiding involvement in a broader conflict in the Middle East, while the risks of generalized conflagration remain high.
