Iran slaughtering Israeli drones and planes after targeted strikes

Military tensions between Iran and Israel have crossed a new course. The Iranian army has announced that it had shot down, today, several Israeli drones which had violated the country’s airspace in the border region of Salmas, in the northwest of the territory. These devices were reportedly engaged in recognition and espionage missions, according to Iranian state television.

The day before, two Israeli hunting planes were also said to have been intercepted and destroyed while Iranian territory illegally flew, according to the official news agency Irna. The semi-official agency Tasnim evokes the destruction of several “air micro-vehicles”, in addition to combat aircraft.

This military intensification comes in response to a series of Israeli strikes carried out on Friday morning against Iranian military and civil positions, according to the Tehran authorities. In retaliation, Iran has launched dozens of missiles against military bases and infrastructure located on Israeli territory.

In a statement, the revolution guards said that this response was “firm and precise”, targeting “dozens of strategic sites from the Israeli regime”.

Iranian diplomacy, for its part, denounced a blatant violation of international law, qualifying the Israeli strikes as “manifest assault against the territorial integrity of Iran”. She warned that an answer “by all necessary means” would be provided.

This escalation raises fears of a new regional assignment, while calls for restraint are multiplying within the international community.
