Faced with the assembly of people’s representatives, doctors researchers organized a sit-in this Monday, July 7 to demand their direct integration into higher education. A mobilization which coincides with the hearing of the Minister of Higher Education by Parliament.

Equipped with their diplomas and their demands, the Tunisian researcher doctors expressed their fed up this Monday morning in front of the gates of the Parliament. Gathered in sit-in before the assembly of representatives of the people, they claim their direct integration within the university body, denouncing years of marginalization and unwarmed promises.

This protest action comes as the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Mondher Belaid, is auditioned this same day in plenary session. A symbolic timing, chosen to challenge deputies and demand a concrete solution to their situation.

In a statement to Mosaic FM, Hamda Kouka, spokesperson for the movement, castigated the lack of transparency of the ministry, in particular with regard to the exact number of doctors registered on the platform dedicated to their follow-up. He recalled that the ministry had undertaken to finalize the census of vacant posts before March 21, 2025, a promise that was unlikely, according to him.

The representative of the demonstrators also firmly rejected the idea of redeploying doctors to administrative positions, considering this option as a diversion of career and a waste of scientific skills of the country. “Our qualifications are intended for research and teaching, not at administrative offices,” he said.

Protesters say that Tunisian universities need their expertise, at a time when the country aims to relaunch scientific research. They denounce a policy of underemployment and call on the authorities to fully recognize their role in the development of knowledge and innovation.
